New Control from Solmetra: Flash Uploader

July 15th, 2008 by qemm

We are proud to announce the release of our new product aimed at web developers — Flash Uploader.

It’s a highly customizable Flash-based control that replaces stagnant HTML’s <file> tag. It not only displays neat progress bar — a feature lacking in <file> tag — but also provides some pretty neat upload security features and client-side restrictions (i.e. file size and type) as well as JavaScript API.

Give it a try and let us know what you think. Oh, and it’s free!

Solmetra launches shopping list service

September 4th, 2007 by qemm

Hi there!

We’ve just launched our newest online service - Knotler.com. It’s an innovative approach to a hundred years old issue - personal shopping list management. We’ve employed AJAX to make creation of your shopping lists easy, fast and hassle-free. We’ve also made sure your lists are available through vast array of mobile devices and interfaces, including iGoogle, mobile phones, PDAs, even legacy WAP browsers. Why? Because writing on paper sucks!

Each list can be collectively edited by many persons simultaneously. Without any registrations, email, and all unnecessary BS. Yes yes - we’re aware that your wife can add those damn cosmetics for you to pick up on your way home while simultaneously removing your six-packs. We’re working on it :)

Give it a spin and let us know what you think. It’s free. And you know it’s cool because it has a BETA sign…

P.S. What the name Knotler means? No f***** idea.

The Experiment

December 23rd, 2006 by qemm

It seems to be a rule that I am damned by constant crazy ideas popping into my head. Most of the time those are of the “white noise” category. However, some occasional idea triggers a spontaneous — as I call it — “3 hour challenge”, or “let’s see if I can do develop this interesting concept application in just 3 hours.”

It’s also a rule, that “3 hour challenges” almost always result in several days of actual work. Like it was with my latest experiment in AJAX - Image Search Slideshow. It’s a very basic idea - run a search against Google Image Search and display full result images as a slideshow. Basic functionality took 3 hours. Additional bells and whistles — navigation, optimization, Yahoo and live.com support — took another 30.

So here comes the ultimate image search engine for those special occasions when your hands absolutely positively have something better to do than keyclicking ;)

Oh and by the way, I honestly don’t recommend running a search for “playmate” on Google Images. And since you’re not gonna listen to me anyway, here comes “I warned you” in advance: I warned you!

Solmetra Maps (Hearts) Google AJAX Search API

October 25th, 2006 by qemm

Solmetra Maps is a tiny class I developed while working on just another of my personal sites - trippingshoes.com. Mainly because I wanted to play with Google Maps API. It is a simple Google Maps API wrapper that utilizes third party geocoding webservice to relate real life queries to a physical location on a map and display them. The functionality Google Maps API does not provide.

Despite the fact that I’m geting a decent amount of positive feedback about this class, I don’t consider it to be truly useful utility. At least not until it has address search support.

So in the upcoming months — whenever I will have spare time (from gaming and handling my kids) — I will be researching into recently released Google AJAX Search API. It, among other miraculously cool things, is said to support address search. I’m already getting wet about all the things that can be done combining power of Google and AJAX.

Welcome To Our Blog

Developers don’t RTFM. They also don’t read long blog posts unless they include a picture of a hot swimsuit babe every paragraph or two. So I’m not gonna waste your time with heartful introductions.

Let me just say that we launched this blog, so that you — the developers — our main group of focus — can get an inscope of what Solmetra team is currently about, what they’re breathing or what they had for breakfast this morning. All this without boring corporate mumbo-jumbo we all hate.

Like they say: from developers to developers. Or something. Enjoy…

BTW, I had three bannanas ;)
